As technology evolves, the need for skilled professionals who understand the complexities of electrical systems continues to grow throughout Virginia.
Whether you’re interested in developing key automotive safety features or repairing malfunctioning electrical systems, FastForward’s training programs offer students the opportunity to gain the hands-on training and resources needed to thrive in their desired field.
Take it from these students who leveraged the benefits of FastForward training at their local community college to find the career of their dreams in electrical.
A Welcoming and Supporting Environment
It’s never too late to go back to school. The average age of FastForward students is 34, and the supportive environment of each program makes students feel welcome and included.
“I was initially worried about going into the class and sticking out like a sore thumb being an older woman, but that was not the case,” said Angelie Grubb, an electrical student at Laurel Ridge Community College. “It’s intoxicating—the idea that when I’m done, I’ll be able to find something that will be a good fit for me and my family.”
You Don’t Have to Start from Scratch
Students often find that they can apply their previous experience to a career they are pursuing, making the transition into a new field smoother and less intimidating.
“After retiring, I decided I wanted to do something for me,” said Eddie Smith, an electrical student at Camp Community College. “I’ve always had an interest in electricity and the electronic side of the house, and here I am. There are a lot of similarities between what we do here and what we did in the military, so I’m able to apply a lot of that to what I learned here at Camp.”
Financial Assistance is Available to Eligible Students
Many students are eligible for FastForward funding and other financial assistance programs, significantly reducing the cost of training to earn a career certification.
“I was able to get financial assistance in the electrical program at Laurel Ridge Community College. The process was easy to navigate, and the staff were very helpful. I’m now pursuing a career with the goal of getting my journeyman’s license,” said Robert Deans, III, an electrical student at Laurel Ridge Community College. “Plus, my instructor is very experienced in the trade…and will go out of his way to help you out.’
