ANP00409

Returning to school while managing work, family responsibilities and other commitments can feel overwhelming. However, FastForward’s flexible, career-focused programs make it possible. Designed for busy adults, our short-term, high-impact courses aim to help you advance your education without disrupting your daily life.

To make the most of your experience, strong time management skills are essential. Here are some strategies and tips tailored specifically for FastForward students balancing a hectic schedule.

Time Blocking Scheduling

Short-term programs may mean coursework moves quickly, so planning is important. Use a weekly schedule to balance work, life and study time. Consider setting dedicated hours for coursework through time blocking, a time management technique that involves dividing your day into dedicated sections, with each block reserved for a specific task or set of tasks. For instance, you might schedule 9 – 10 a.m. to check and reply to emails, 10 a.m.–12 p.m. to focus on a studying coursework and 1 – 2 p.m. to enjoy lunch at that new spot you’ve been wanting to try.

Communicate and Leverage a Support System

Our programs connect students with instructors, advisors and peers who understand the challenges of balancing school with work and life. Consider joining study groups or online forums to stay motivated and collaborate with peers on coursework. Don’t hesitate to ask your family for support with daily responsibilities and talk to your employer about flexible work arrangements or time off for coursework.

FastForward career coaches are also available to help students navigate everything from understanding what it takes to earn a credential to connecting students to local resources if they need support with childcare or transportation.

Use Technology to Stay Organized

Consider using digital tools like Google Calendar to schedule study times and set reminders for deadlines for assignments, and apps like Trello or Todoist help track assignments and progress, ensuring you never miss an important task.

Adapt and Stay Resilient

Life is unpredictable, and FastForward’s flexibility allows you to adjust as needed. If unexpected work demands or family obligations arise, revisit your schedule and shift priorities. The key to success is staying adaptable while keeping your long-term goals in sight.

With effective time management, thoughtful planning, and the right tools and support, you can successfully manage coursework and reach your goals – without putting your life on pause.
