As Executive Director of Heavy Construction Contractors Association (HCCA), Deborah Harvey greatly values the skilled trade trainings offered through FastForward and Virginia’s Community Colleges.

The HCCA is a non-profit organization of contractors and related businesses  working collaboratively to make a positive impact on the construction industry in Virginia.

HCCA supports contractors across the Commonwealth in advocating for important issues, providing workforce development, career connections and much more.

The Role of Skilled Trades Programs

“Skilled trades programs are critical to our industry,” said Harvey. “The training of heavy equipment operators, of diesel mechanics, of electricians, welders and all those potential positions are key points for every single one of the contractors in my organization.”

Skilled trades training goes beyond the workshop. Your training and certification can take you to countless industries, including construction.

An Employment Pipeline

Virginia’s Community Colleges and HCCA have partnered to provide a Heavy Equipment Operator program using simulators at multiple community colleges. This partnership connects students to the real world.

“Our contractors provide an employment pipeline. The graduates of these skilled trades programs can find guaranteed employment once they finish the program and interview with these individual companies,” said Harvey.

All graduates of the program will receive a nationally recognized credential through the National Center for Construction Education and Research. Graduates are also guaranteed interviews with HCCA member firms.

Set Up for Success

“Virginia’s Community Colleges provide the training and key connections for the students to reach their full potential in our industry,” said Harvey.

Students leave the FastForward  program with resources   to be successful in the construction industry.
