FastForward, offered through Virginia’s Community Colleges, is a funding program designed to make career training more affordable and accessible for Virginians. By reducing the financial barriers to in-demand credentials, FastForward helps students gain the skills needed to launch or advance their careers. In addition to this support, FastForward career coaches are available to guide students in finding other funding sources when additional assistance is needed, ensuring that cost is not a roadblock to opportunity.
Available Funding Programs
Several funding programs are available to help eligible students cover the cost of workforce training. A few that typically support workforce credential training for in-demand careers include:
- FastForward reduces tuition for short-term, in-demand credential programs, making career training more affordable.
- G3 Tuition Assistance supports students pursuing education in fields that align with Virginia’s most-needed industries, such as healthcare, skilled trades and information technology.
- The Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) provides funding and career services for individuals who qualify, with a focus on helping job seekers access training and employment opportunities.
Together, these programs open doors for Virginians to gain valuable skills without letting cost stand in the way for eligible Virginians.
How to Make the Most of These Supports
Here are some tips to make sure you get all the financial help you are eligible for:
- Talk to a FastForward Career Coach early. They know which funding options apply to the program(s) you’re interested in and will help you navigate options you are eligible for based on your situation.
- Explore all funding options before enrolling. Don’t assume tuition is all you’ll need, consider books, materials and other costs.
- Apply early. Many grants or scholarships work on a first-come, first-served basis. Delays might mean missing out.
- Keep up with program requirements. To get full funding under FastForward, G3 or the Workforce Credential Grant, you usually have to complete the training and earn the credential.
- Check eligibility regularly. Your circumstances (income, job status etc.) may make you eligible for support you didn’t initially think about.
