While you are working hard earning credentials in the classroom or out in the field, it’s also important to start planning for your next job. Attending a career fair can be a great place to make connections, learn about an industry and figure out your future plans. Career fairs happen at various times throughout the year and feature a variety of employers all seeking new talent. These events can be good opportunities to practice your elevator pitch—think a 15-second introduction to who you are and what skills you bring to the table—and they can help guide you down a path toward your next job.
Most career fairs provide registered attendees with a list of participating employers, which gives you the information you need to plan ahead and prioritize your time connecting with companies in your preferred industry. It’s a good idea to do some background research on the companies you are interested in before the event, as having a few talking points can help break the ice during your initial conversation.
