Auto shops in the Richmond region are struggling to hire skilled workers to fill auto mechanic roles. The Richmond Times-Dispatch spoke to a handful of auto-body shops and car dealerships about their hiring struggles (and incentives for getting more workers hired).
According to Business Facilities, “Kamine Development Corporation and Nicollet Industries, LLC will invest $267 million to establish a new paperboard recycling and production facility, Celadon Development Corporation, at the Chesapeake Deepwater Terminal site in the City of Chesapeake.” The new venture will create over 200 new jobs.
Northern Virginia Community College is piloting a program called Career Up to help first-generation students better their career readiness, according to a recent article in InsideNova.
If you have a disability, the Department of Aging and Rehabilitative Services wants to help connect you to an employer. WSLS recently ran an overview of the agency “Our whole goal is employment. And so, we help the students work on their emotional, social, academic, to able to be a productive member of society,” said James Hall, Manager for the Career and Workforce Development Division at the Wilson Workforce and Rehabilitation Center.
Intact Technology, which recently came to Virginia when it moved its Maryland HQ to the commonwealth, announced it would be adding a second location in Richmond. Coming with it? An additional 125 jobs. The CEO said in a recent Virginia Business article, “This opportunity is for people who are creative, passionate, resilient, self-motivated and strive to positively impact those around them.”
