For some people, being stuck behind the wheel can be a headache. For Kenneth, being in the driver’s seat gives him a sense of feeling and accomplishment – all thanks to his CDL-Class A credential earned through the FastForward workforce training program.
Kenneth enrolled in the Commercial Driver’s License training program at the Community College Workforce Alliance, a workforce partnership with John Tyler and Reynolds Community Colleges in the greater Richmond area.
A native of Petersburg, Kenneth previously worked as a forklift driver but he was looking to take his abilities on the road.
“I don’t mind driving. I like driving trucks, so I thought it would be a good career path,” he said.
After completing his training through CCWA, Kenneth continued to receive support and encouragement from FastForward Career Coaches.
“It was awesome. The people really help you. They reached out to me, calling to make sure I got a job,” he said. “They want to make sure you get a job once you’ve earned your credentials.”
Kenneth is currently employed by Green Rock Materials, a concrete company that delivers pre-mixed concrete throughout the Richmond area. By earning his FastForward credential, Kenneth became gainfully employed and has a new outlook on his career path forward.
“I’m changing my life for the better.”
